JBQ Memory Tips: 30-Point Questions

Question #(s) Tip
484.
To remember the reference for this quotation, use the thought: “The Hebrews go to church at 10:25.”
484.
Do the fingerplay, “Here is the church, here is the steeple. Open the doors and see all the people.” There are 10 fingers in the “church” and each hand’s fingers times the other is 5 x 5, or 25, so 10:25.
485.
(KJV) 2 Timothy 3:16 has 4 “for’s.” 4 x 4 = 16.
485. & 487.
To keep from reversing the references on these two, remember that 2 Timothy 3:16 starts with a 3-letter word, “And,” and 2 Timothy 2:15 starts with a 2-letter word, “Do.”
487.
To remember the reference for this quotation, use the thought: “Timothy studies at 2:15.”
500.
I looked up all the Scriptures that go with the “I am” statements from John. We did charades to act out each one. Then I had the quizzers read the Scriptures for each statement so we could get the context of what Jesus was saying. I asked them “comprehension” questions to make sure they were retaining what was read. We also begin learning the two 30-point quotation questions that go along with the John “I am” statements (506, 507).
526.
Use the first letter of each segment of the answer to spell the word FLAP.
537.
This is one of the 30-point questions that goes bold long before there is enough information given to figure out what the question is. For this question, take the first word, “What,” and flip it upside-down, turning the W into an M, which stands for Matthew. This helps quizzers remember the rest of the question.
539 & 540.
To keep from reversing these two references, remember that the bigger quote is the bigger reference number. (Philippians 4:8 has more words than Philippians 4:6.)
556.
Visualize a bride lifting weights: body-building bride.
569.
Here’s a tip for teaching one of the longest quotes. Teach the verse word by word, adding motions and sounds as follows: “For the Lord himself will come down (point down) from heaven, with a loud command (yell your name through your cupped hands), with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God (make a sound like a trumpet while playing an air trumpet), and the dead in Christ will rise first (point from the ground to the sky). After that, we who are alive and are left (point at yourself) will be caught up (jump once) together with them in the clouds (wave hands in the air while saying the words ‘clouds…air’) to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever (exchange high fives). To help the kids understand the concept, have them draw self-portraits on helium-filled balloons, then release the balloons outside.
572.
Use the first letters of each name in the following phrase (the key letters are shown in capitals): JJ LIZ and God’s Rockin’ BANDS.
575.
To remember the 12 apostles, use this acronym: JJJJ (4 names start with J, two of which are James), SSTT (2 Simons and 2 Th’s), then BMAP. If you say “B-Map ’ew” it helps the kids remember BartholomEW, MatthEW, and AndrEW. It’s easy to tack on Philip after that.
575.
Use the following formula to teach the twelve apostles: 2 Simons (Simon Peter, Simon the Zealot), 2 James (son of Alpheus, son of Zebedee)), 2 Th (Thomas, Thaddeus), 2 wrote Gospels (Matthew, John), 2 friends (Philip, Andrew), 2 others (Bartholomew, Judas Iscariot).
575.
Use the tune of the song “Bringing in the Sheaves” to learn the apostles. The words go as follows: “There were 12 disciples Jesus called to help him: Simon Peter, Andrew, James son of Zebedee, his brother John, Philip, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus, Simon the Canaanite, Judas, and Bartholomew.”
