JBQ Ideas for Kids Camp

“Rapid Fire” Quiz

This game is called “Rapid Fire” due to students moving quickly in and out of the game. This procedure allows many quizzer to join in the fun. This game is often won by newcomers who enter near the end. They become the heroes when they answer the last questions correctly. The only way a team hopes to win at this JBQ game is to get all quizzers learning the questions and answers. Thus, the good JBQ quizzers become coaches helping the new kids to learn the questions and answers. Complete details are listed below, but basic rule differences are:

  • No loss of points for incorrect answers
  • No backward quizzing out
  • Quotation questions are given “in essence”
  • Two-question quiz-outs
  • Quizmaster rules—no appeals—nothing that delays the game
  • Each counselor’s group will be a team. Quizzers may be in a game for only ten questions. Those who have not quizzed out after ten questions have been read will leave the game and allow other team members to play. All campers must play at least one game per day.
  • Kids’ camp quizzing will be done the same as Junior Bible Quiz, using the buzzer sets for determining who will answer a question. A question answered incorrectly will be given to the other team to answer.
  • A correct answer will score full point value of the question. No points will be taken away for an incorrect answer. A quizzer is out when he has given three correct or incorrect answers, however, two-question quiz-outs should be used if there are six or more members per team. No backward quiz-outs are required. Bonus points are not given.
  • From the time a quizzer is recognized, he will have thirty seconds to give his answer.
  • A “quotation question” can be given “in essence.” The reference may be given either before or after quoting the verse.
  • Each quiz will be twenty questions randomly selected by the Quizmaster from the daily questions in the Camper Staff Manual. Tuesday questions will be used on Tuesday, then each day following that day’s questions will be added, so that by Thursday all questions will be included in the quizzes.
  • Each team will quiz other teams during the week. There are two quizzes per day. The top girls’ and boys’ team by the win/loss records will compete in the Camp Championship during the Friday morning chapel time. If there should be a tie, there will be a quiz-off to determine the winning team at a time determined by the Quiz Coordinator.
  • The Quizmaster’s ruling is final! The Quizmaster may dismiss a quizzer for lack of good conduct. Fouls (-5 points) at the discretion of the Quizmaster may be given.
  • Questions will be limited to those published in the Camper Staff Manual. A game consists of ten10-point, seven 20-point, and three 30-point questions. On Tuesday, all questions of the day are used.
  • Tell your campers to pay attention to every question while in quizzing, whether they are at the pads or not. Any question may be asked from the designated questions of the day, so a question they hear in the first match might be used in the next match also.
  • A camper can remain in a match for only ten questions, so determine who your top quizzers are and devise a strategy that will benefit your group.
  • Study with your campers. Help them to make mental memory pegs and visualize the answers.
  • Have the questions for the day with you and do not let your campers waste the moments. Camp Managers should give counselors laminated sets of questions which they can carry in their wallets, around their necks on lanyards, or in their pockets or purses. Encourage study to take place while kids are getting ready in the morning, while kids are walking to and from events, while kids are standing in lines, and during other free-time opportunities.
  • Encourage winning, but help each camper to see that learning important truths from God’s Word is the ultimate goal.
  • Emphasize questions in your morning devotions with your campers.
  • Each camper in your group must participate in a match for the day before a camper can participate in the second match of the day.
  • Divide the quotation questions and be sure that at least one person in each group knows each one.
