Remember the Grace
From the Desk of David Boyd National BGMC Director
“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.” Does this sound like the typical response from someone you seek as a volunteer worker for your ministry program? Perhaps not. These words were spoken by Paul in 1 Timothy 1:12. Reading on, you will quickly see the reason for his willingness to serve in ministry.
In verse 13, Paul describes how bad an individual he once was. In verse 14, he states, “The grace of our Lord was poured out on me.” Paul was glad to serve because he was glad for what Christ had done in His life. Isn’t it a shame that we as Christians forget the grace Christ has given us? We forget the joy we have knowing that heaven awaits us. We enjoy God’s blessings so much on earth that we lose our thankfulness—the thankfulness that should cause us to give our time back to the Lord as an offering.
As children’s leaders, it is important that we never lose sight of this one fact—that we can never repay God for the sacrifice given to us through Jesus. Although we can never repay it, we should still try. We should, as Paul said, realize it is God who gives us strength to do His will.
It is also vitally important that we raise up generations of children who are thankful for their place in the kingdom of God. They must grasp their place as adopted children of God and their responsibility to give back to Him through their time, talent, and sacrificial effort. Let’s raise a generation of kids who love Christ so much that they gladly share their time, their service, and their sacrifice. Let’s never stop being that example for them. Let’s remember the grace God gave us. Let’s be thankful for the strength to serve Him and use that strength to reach and disciple children “Until He Comes.” |
