Book Review - Core Values by George O. Wood

About a month ago I received my renewed credentials card in the mail.  I opened the envelope and pulled out my new Ordained Ministers Card for 2009.  I have been and continue to be a part of a great movement called the Assemblies of God.  Those of us who have been with this movement for a number of years could most likely communicate the 16 tenants of faith that our movement is based on-but what about the current core values?   Our General Superintendant Dr. George O. Wood has communicated what God has laid on his heart about the core values of the Assemblies of God movement through a book entitled Core Values. 

So, I am writing a book review today on this great book written by our current General Superintendant, Dr. George O Wood.  My plan here is not to give any information away about the book, Core Values.  I feel like the book speaks very clearly to the current direction and passion of this great movement.   I could list for you the five core values from the book and tell you how much I agree with them but that would defeat the purpose of your learning what the five core values are.  I could also tell you that the book is well-written and that Brother Wood supports each core value with scripture and that he uses real-life experiences to communicate each value; but anyone who knows Brother Wood knows these things would absolutely be an integral part of something he would write.  What I really want to tell you is READ THE BOOK!  It is impossible to serve effectively in a great movement for a great leader and not know what God has clearly spoken to him about the current direction of the movement? 

Two weeks ago I was at a certain church's leadership retreat and the book was highlighted during a leadership and training time.  The leader read a portion of the book from Page 19 and challenged the volunteers with a heartfelt story.  So, whether you are credentialed or not, whether you are a senior pastor, a youth pastor, a children's pastor, leader or volunteer, this book will give some great insights and sense for where the Assemblies of God is headed. Now, what are you waiting for, get the BOOK!  Don't delay any longer.  Everywhere I travel, I challenge individuals to read the book.  Know what God has spoken to your leader, Dr Wood; hear his heart for the movement, the church, the ministry and for you.  So, right now, as you read this book review, stop-buy the book and read it.  It should be on the top of your task list.
